Best Cordless Impact Drivers - Select The Right Power Source

Article by Wayne Rasku

The top cordless impact drivers and drills aren’t getting their ratings totally based on voltage. There are a variety of factors which add to the worth of cordless tools, and, besides reliability, probably the most important one is the type of power supply, or battery, which the tool makes use of. This document will reveal what to consider when purchasing your next cordless impact drivers.

- Battery Specifications — For cordless tools, power is based upon battery voltage: the greater the voltage, the more power and torque the device has available. Even though much more power and torque may possibly look like some thing you desire, there are there are trade-offs. With high voltage cordless tools, and having the additional power comes extra cost as well as extra tool weight.

Here is a typical comparison in order to illustrate the idea. A typical 9.6 Volt cordless drill will generally weigh within the neighborhood of 3-1/2 pounds and set the buyer back anywhere from - 0. As a comparison, a 19.2 Volt cordless drill may weigh up to 10 pounds and cost within the range of 5 - 0. When the increased torque and energy of a 19.2 Volt cordless drill is truly required, the added cost may possibly be worth every penny. Nevertheless should you be making use of the cordless drill to occasionally drive fasteners inside your house, a 19.2 Volt cordless drill is possibly not worth it since it’s tougher to use (since it is heavy) and funds not well invested. Should you genuinely do not require the extra energy, a cheaper, light-weight cordless drill will almost certainly fit your requirements much better.

- Quantity of Batteries — Yet another point to think about when acquiring a brand new cordless tool may be the quantity of batteries which will come with the product. In the event you plan on utilizing your tool for longer amounts of time or even more frequently, you are going to need to just consider tools that include two batteries. It truly is quite frustrating when your battery dies in the middle of something and you must put it off an hour or two for your battery to charge so it is possible to return to what you had been doing. If you are buying a tool, be sure it is sold with two battery packs. In cases where it does not, look up the cost of an additional battery and add that whenever you are evaluating costs between tools.

- Battery Style — Two kinds of batteries are available for cordless tools: Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) and Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). Do your self a big favor by just not choosing a cordless tool that uses NiMH batteries. Ok, it might be less expensive, however it is cheap for a really good motive. NiMH batteries have problems with memory (they must be fully discharged prior to they’re energized or they get rid of charge potential), they do not last for as many charge cycles (the battery packs die faster), and they have lower power compared with equivalent voltage Li-Ion batteries.

- Battery and Tool Storage — Even when your cordless tool is off, it’s going to draw a little amount of energy from the battery. Although the amount of energy being drawn is slight, it could add as much as a significant amount over the course of days, or weeks. So if you put away your cordless tools, make sure to get rid of the battery; this may support ensure that the battery is charged once you want it. Do not keep your battery inside the charger for extended periods of time. Even though you’ll find some chargers that claim to be “smart” about this, but as a rule storing your cordless tool batteries within the charger will result in them dying sooner than if you do not. When storing your batteries keep away from storing them in heat and cold. Cold climate won’t harm your battery long-term, however it will decrease the quantity of available power when the tool is becoming used. High heat can permanently ruin the batteries of one’s cordless tools. Keep away from high heat, and don’t charge your batteries in an area which is overly hot, this can permanently damage the battery.

-Charging Your Batteries- A lot of higher-end cordless tools now come with advanced chargers that enable the battery to be charged in an extremely brief time period; often in about 15 minutes. For comparison, a standard charger can take as much as 3 hours to charge the battery. If you want a quick-charging battery for your tool, appear into the charging alternatives that are obtainable prior to finding a cordless tool.

- Pick a Brand — A straightforward method to stay away from difficulties with battery availability is always to determine on a battery size and brand and remain with it. If you consistently purchase exactly the same brand of tool with the very same battery size when purchasing drills, trim saws, reciprocating saws, screwdrivers, etc, you’ll be in a position to share batteries and chargers between all of your tools. This can improve the quantity of obtainable batteries and it ensures which you will in no way run out of charged batteries.

Question by jimmay: can i recharge energizer nimh rechargeable batteries in my duracell charger and vice versa?

Best answer:

Answer by amaridy
If one is for Nickel metal hydride and the other is for Nickel Cadmium. The polarity may be different and cause your batteries to leak or explode.
If they are both NiMh battery chargers then there shouldn’t be a problem. I have been charging my cool-pix batteries in my daughters duracell charger for Nimh

Sweet video man.. I just received my new eneloop AA batteries today (the crown version) It will definitely save you a lot of money.. some people are used to just buying like 24 pack of batteries at a time every other month they don’t know the money they are wasting yearly..

And people please watch the video before commenting stupid ****

  3. Wavefront101 says:

Energizer is garbage. They gear their chargers to destroy batteries by using high current and flat out brute force. This way they sell more batteries. Definitely can’t go wrong with eneloops.

  4. angelisone says:

    You are correct.

But ATG SLA AA is much better.

Even Sanyo XX won’t even come close.

  5. zeonfollower says:

    I chose Sanyo!

  6. mrjodoe says:

You should have compared XX to the energizer!

  7. georgebochra says:

Hello, this video is great, I own the same Energizer batteries and charger, if I bought Sanyo can I still use the same charge of I have to buy a new one

    again thanks very much

  8. sybyabraham says:

I would like to see a comparison between Sanyo’s Eneloop and Sony’s Cycle Energy batteries.

  9. geozaf says:

SANYO! i had sanyo like cadnica rechargeable battery for like 3yrs now and still i’m using it right now.

  10. sx20Ramar says:

Eneloop is best battery and the Maha C9000 is the best charger. Let it be written, let it be done.

  11. HashanGayasri says:

How did you miss the Sanyo Eneloop XX! it has a capacity of 2500mAh. That one and probably most of the other NON low self-discharge batteries batteries by Sanyo have more juice than those old Energizers.

  12. Kiristovai says:

After watching the whole thing I still am agreeing with keis2046 in that there was nothing stated about shelf life. You can charge the Eneloops and set them aside and if a hurricane or some disaster occurs a year later, there will still be about 80% charge in the battery, while the Energizer could only hope to hold the charge for maybe a couple of months.

  13. skiwiberry says:

energizer is the best when it comes to alkalines. Eneloops are widely regarded as the best rechargeables for higher drain use such as in flashlights/camera flashes. Hop over to CPForums, almost every user will assure you eneloops are the way to go, especially if you want energy cells that will STAY charged for EDC and 24/7 reliability

  14. grego10r says:

    Energizer = fail

  15. TheKangarooguru says:

you picking the batteries up every single time you were talking about them annoyed the heck out of me!

  16. mickywillfixit says:

it might look good but i bet you it is crap so if you are looking for a new flashlight then take a look at this place goinggear com and this place is also in america not really sure where but its closer to you than me and i will admit some the flashlights are expensive and some are cheap it realy depends what you are looking for just take a look

  17. Esperantisto84 says:

i’m interested…can you use the sanyo battery in the energizer charger and vice versa? I never got into these rechargeable batteries but i’m thinking of investing in some.

Wii people really need them too!
